When you see that nap time about to happen on its own. ??? Aside from falling asleep in the car, I can probably count on one hand the number of times this kid has fallen asleep on his own. . Spurgeon has been that kid who, since as early as he could speak, would actually ASK to go down for a nap. "Mommy, I'm tired. I want to go night-night." He even requests every light off in the room and his door completely shut before he will fall asleep. . Henry, on the other hand, is that kid who gets cranky and acts tired, but usually cries and refuses to fall asleep on his own. Our key to peaceful sleep? We nurse to sleep, every nap and every nighttime. Everyone has their own method that works for them, and I do not look down on other approaches. Some do sleep training, some let them cry it out. But for us, this is what we've chosen. Motherhood is hard work. When you have two toddlers close in age, there are so many joys, and equally as many challenges... and you learn to choose your battles. This isn't at the top of my list. Yes, he's 16 months old... but I keep telling myself that he won't be little forever. . Today, however, I was gone during nap time, and Daddy got him to sleep on his own without much of a battle. Toddlers will transition over time to a state of being more independent. I don't want to rush it. I love the closeness of our bond. As the weeks go by, I see my clingy little fella growing and changing, and starting to explore more on his own. I know that he won't always raise his arms up, asking to be held. He won't always cry for me when he's awakened scared in the night. He won't always want to snuggle and nurse in my bed for hours in the early morning. Let them be little. Cherish the moments. The days are long, but the years are short. This season will be over before we know it, and it's sure to be missed. ???
