Every month since March 2009, we have invited an artist to share their favourite recipe with us, which we style, shoot and publish in the back page of our magazine as part of our Artist’s Palate series. This month’s contribution is a brightly flavoured, weather-appropriate green papaya salad, courtesy of Polish conceptual artist @alicjakwade.
Everyday objects laden with metaphor, linear objects drooping against walls, and mirror images with deliberate imperfections lend a hallucinatory quality to Kwade's works, unsettling our understanding of science and the meaning of reality. Her dish of choice offers a happy contrast. ‘The first time I made it was during an artist residency in Martinique,’ she says. ‘The small boathouse there is the most beautiful place on earth I know.’
