McGwire moved halfway to breaking Roger Maris’ single-season home run record after launching a grand slam off Diamondbacks starter (and former teammate) Andy Benes in the 3rd inning. The 438-foot blast was Big Mac’s 11th career grand slam, his first career HR at the new Bank One Ballpark (now Chase Field) in downtown Phoenix and the 30th different stadium homered in for his career.
Mark’s four-bagger also extended his homer streak to 11-straight series and increased his RBI total to 80 through 59 games played. #BigMacFlashback
