The Annenberg Foundation did a study of 19,559 reviews of the 100 top-grossing films of 2017. What they found is deeply disturbing. 22.2% of the reviews were written by females and 77.8% by male critics.
18% of reviews were written by critics from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds and 82% by white critics.
Of all reviews, 63.2% were by white males, 18.1% by white females, 13.8% by underrepresented males, and 4.1% by underrepresented females.
