I got a review of my show Cherry Picking in yesterday’s SVD by @johannakarolinamodig . Im feeling so blessed to get such a beautiful review and such nice words written about my show from such a competent writer. I do however get a little frustrated that the text brings up my legs not being shaven. A lot. I wonder if I, as a femmey artist, needs to remove my hair in order to make people not get blinded by this. In the show there are pieces that is not mentioned in the article like the Phone farm i made with @troxelereffect and the sound piece - that is based on Helen Hesters and Nina Powers texts about disembodied women in AI and the public soundscape and my piece in extensions is about how we use certain language to disembody our technology when using words like “clouds” even though these exist physically exist just that it is outsourced - to point out a couple pieces that clearly has nothing to do with this. I feel like i need to make art with less hair, less body and less femme aesthetics for people to look “deeper”. Using feminine aesthetics I feel like I easily get written off as making art that is not “that deep”. I like working on different levels with art and try to make sure it is visually exciting because the visual is a medium in itself that to me doesn’t exclude but goes beyond words and work on a poetic level that can bring out intricate ideas in itself. I also think my body is extremely nonoffensive and normative so I can’t personally read it as anything else, but body hair is still such a mark people choose to read as abnormal or exentric that it needs to get written about in every interview and text about my work. I guess I have to shave for my next show to make people see the forest and not get confused by the trees.
