I just don’t see how in a universe that seems to be at least 14,000,000,000 years old and vast
beyond our imaginings that we as tiny brained humans can have absolute certainty about who
or what god is, or isn’t. I understand how certainty of belief can be seductive, as at times in my life
I’ve been a serious atheist and a serious christian. But dogma and rigidity of belief really just
point to our own fear and longing for certainty, whether that’s a rock solid belief in religion, or a rock
solid belief that there is no god. Which is why I love this quote from Einstein, for what we can, at best, do
is sit back and look at evidence(whether that’s quantum mechanics, the architecture of a cell, or puppies)that
there is more in heaven and earth than is dreamt of in our philosophies(and any/all belief systems).
Also I understand the thrill of tribal allegiance to absurd and arbitrary things like sports teams, but I don’t see how it makes any sense
to hold on to(or start wars based on)tribal allegiances to systems of belief based on the potential
architect(s)of a universe that's 14 billion years old.
