Growing up, all I ever wanted was to be was a big-league ballplayer. It was my dream in Little League, and it became my goal as I got older. Exactly 25 years ago today - June 3, 1993 - I got the phone call that made my dream a reality, when I was drafted No. 1 overall by the Mariners. I’ll never forget that day. My mother had worked two jobs for so long just to support my dream. The first thing I did was buy her a house and a car, and since that day she has never had to work again.
