The first person I definitively came out as gay to was my roommate, Dan Kosh, while we were sitting (sweating) on the couch during the heatwave of the June 2006 gay pride parade. I felt empowered hearing their voices & message. Watching through our open windows all the courageous LGBTQAs marching, I was inspired by the kaleidoscope of performers that swarmed around our sunny apartment in the West Village below Christopher Street. I had recently become honest with myself that this was home- and for the first time authentically shared that side of me- my sexual identity- openly & out loud with actual words. I was very scared at the time that I would lose some friends and maybe I have along the way, but Dan was super supportive, a true friend and a champion ally from that day forward.
