Did you #GuessTheArtist correctly? Here’s the full view of Georges Braque’s “Violin and Palette” (1909). Braque abandoned a bright Fauve palette and traditional perspective and his style of painting evolved into simplified spatial forms, flattened planes, and muted colors, inspired by Paul Cézanne’s geometrized compositions. By the end of 1908, Braque and Pablo Picasso began to compare results of their techniques and it became obvious to both artists that they had simultaneously invented a new style of painting, later dubbed Cubism, where objects are still recognizable in paintings, but are fractured into multiple facets, as is the surrounding space with which they merge.
