Shout out to the Television Academy for hosting a recent discussion on the state of Asian-American representation in Hollywood. I was honored to speak alongside Kulap Vilaysack, Veena Sud, Howard Meltzer, CSA, and moderator Miguel Santos of #MyxTV. Pretty sure we can agree that our strides towards inclusion in media is a far cry from where it should be, and there's too many reasons that attribute to why the industry still doesn't reflect America's demographics. So until that needle moves, I encourage my Asian American fam, ems & anhs (which means bros and sis in #Viet,) who are working to break into traditional AND digital media (keep killing it @iisuperwomanii), to AMPLIFY yourself. Meaning whatever you're doing behind the cam or in front, make it prominent, make it memorable. Break some rules, shake shit up, engage your parents in your fight to break barriers so they've got your back. I am where I am today cuz I'm not afraid to do extra or be extra. One time I had an audition that called for Caucasian models, 5'8 and above. Welp...I lied to make the cold audition, pushed past the receptionist, and delivered my lines... with additional alts #extra✊. I landed the job. Not everyone's story's the same but don't wait for the moment- MAKE IT. Be savage, not average. You'll never regret being remembered.?
