In 1972 the last wild Arabian oryx was shot, bringing the species almost entirely to extinction. 10 years later, the oryx was released back into the wild after breeding in captivity using the ones that were previously captured. Since then, there have been releases throughout the Middle East! This has lowered the Arabian oryx’s threat level from ‘endangered’ to ‘vulnerable.’
