Looking at universities back in 11th grade I didn’t have a clue what I wanted. I knew I needed a solid swim program and that my mom wanted me to stay close to home. I wanted an environment I could grow into but that wouldn’t swallow me up and spit me out. I was coming from a small town so-so swim club that I loved but didn’t fit in to. All I knew was that I wanted to go to NCAA’s and the Olympics. I wanted to live some sort of American dream, cheer on a football team, and see what a freeway was. I told every school who called my goals and listened carefully when they talked about their training trips, training tables, past athletes, and state of the art facilities. Minnesota somehow gave me more than that though and I will never be able to show how grateful I am. I want to stay for another 6 years just to thank everyone who was a part of this journey. ~ During my first meeting with Kelly Kremer there was the usual back and forth with typical questions and memorized answers. At one point my dad asked if he thought I could score at Ncaa’s. Kelly grew frustrated and went off script answering that he thought I would be a world champion one day. It was an epiphany for me. That’s what I thought too. We’re not there yet but we still have some sand left in the hourglass. ~ America has been really good to me. I’ll never be able to give back enough during my lifetime but I’ll try. My small Dinkytown apartment across from campus, on top of a Target, beside a church will forever be my happy place. Hard to explain but there are so many people who are just like me here which made me feel like this is where I was supposed to be. There were ups and downs to be sure but all of the hiccups and false starts were my fault. ~ 27 short months until Tokyo. Act III starts now. Ski-U-Mah ~ Kierra
