Sometimes I feel like it’s hard for non-Russians to understand what May 9 means to the Russian people. Most people in the US don’t even know the significance of this day. 73 years ago, on May 9, 1945, the German forces surrendered to the Soviet Union and ended WWII, a war that took the lives of millions of people and left the biggest imprint on Russian culture as we know it today. Today is a day of honor for our grand and great grandparents who fiercely protected our nation, a day of gratitude for living in a peaceful time (although that’s not the case for everyone around the world), and a day of mourning for the lives we lost. This morning I was tearing up watching clips of the Victory Parade in Moscow and the countless celebrations going on around the country. I am constantly reminded that despite everything that’s happening in the political world, I am so proud to be Russian-American and to be a citizen of both of these great countries. Happy Victory Day! ??❤️ #деньпобеды #россия #мыпомним
