On this date, Bob Gibson threw his fourth complete game of the 1968 season. Facing off against future Hall of Famer, Tom Seaver, Gibson struck out 11 hitters with just one walk over 11 innings! Gibson allowed 1 earned run and only faced three batters over the minimum by limiting the Mets to just 3 hits.
Lou Brock’s lead-off triple in the 11th and Orlando Cepeda’s subsequent walk-off single gave the Cardinals a 2-1 win. Gibson’s fourth consecutive complete game improved his record to 3-1 and lowered his ERA to 1.31. Amazing, the 11-inning affair only took 2 hours and 10 minutes! #CompleteGamer
