Marie Howe, “What the Living Do.” I was reminded of this poem after seeing Dance Nation @phnyc, in which women of all ages play a dance class of 13 year-old girls (plus one sweet boy). It’s not cheeky or winky or satirical; it means their pasts and futures haunt each scene. So did mine. In the natural shedding and then hating of selves, it’s hard to believe a younger one ever knew something you don’t, or I guess that you’ve forgotten. Some of that rage-inspired confidence was returned to me through this weird wonderful show. I want everyone to see everything but if I have a good sense of who follows this account, I think this one would especially resonate with you. ?♀️???♀️??
