With this year’s Met Gala and Costume Institute exhibition themed “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, Vogue looks back at how designers have brought the church to the runway. From Dolce & Gabbana’s autumn/winter ’13/’14 collection, inspired by the Duomo at Monreale in Sicily, to haute couture from Jean Paul Gaultier and Christian Lacroix, Christian iconography has made its way from the runways of decades past to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
