"To work with Sofia Coppola on her first film, it was such a collaborative experience. I felt like I knew that period (1970’s) like the back of my hand since I had grown up in that time. I referenced photo books like William Eggleston, Joel Meyerowitz and Jacob Holdt. I used my junior high yearbooks which were from around the same time and also Sears catalogues. I loved designing the prom dresses for the Lisbon girls. I had the thought that their mom would’ve made them for the girls from the same pattern with all the different options that are included in a homemakers pattern.” We spoke to costume designer @steinerama, the woman behind the infamous Lisbon Girls prom dresses, Kurt Cobain’s green cardi, and most recently appointed costume designer of Twin Peaks.
