Tucked neatly in-between #OxfordStreet, #BakerStreet and #Marlebone Village is, quite possibly, the best museum you’ve never heard of. @wallacemuseum - a collection of four generations of really wealthy hoarders - is housed in a building that has, in its 230 year life, been a weekend house, Spanish embassy, French embassy and art Gallery. #RichardWallace (b.1818-d.1890), the 4th Marquess’ illegitimate son, landed here when he fled Paris during the Paris Commune (two months of radical socialists ruling Paris in 1871) and sought shelter for himself and his art in his father’s #London digs. He lived there until his death and then his wife gave it all up to London for your viewing pleasure. You’ve got to see it to believe it. ?
