Meet @MartinaMartian, an illustrator based in Sydney, Australia — although she travels a lot, so you may be playing Where In The World Is Martina Martian? She loves to get inspiration from all things 80’s and 90’s, from TV shows to record covers to kitschy packaging and toys from her childhood. Her illustrations feature a “bold, colourful, and positive” aesthetic that often look like they were taken straight out of a sticker book.

Instagram has helped her further her career as an artist, such as creating work for Giphy, Snapchat, Reebok, Nike, ASOS, and other brands. She has been so successful that she has been able to work full-time as an illustrator, something she says is her proudest accomplishment. Her advice to anyone looking to build a following is to remember to post regularly, find a strong theme, and respond to the people who take the time to support you.

She’s inspired by strong, feminist women (Roxane Gay, Ariana Grande, and Emma Watson, to name a few) — women who follow their dreams and continue to champion for other women while doing so.
