Today is World Veterinary Day. I received this note from a vet tech in California. “Dear City, Thought I would send this picture to help your cause! I’ve worked in the veterinary field for 4 years now and have always been against any type of unnecessary amputation on pets such as tail/ear docking and declawing ? This is a picture of one of our patients in previous hospital where the doctors still performed this barbaric procedure ? poor cat took off his cone over night and got into his bandages. First thing I see in the morning when I walk into work was this ??" ??? ? . I debated running this photo in color but as you can imagine, it is just too gruesome and shocking. The whole floor is covered in blood. ??It is the awful truth. This poor cat had his toe bones burned off. Laser declaw is NOT more humane or better for a cat.?#fact This week was a bad one for the cause. The California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) sent out their longtime lobbyist and he successfully convinced some of the Senators to vote no or not vote for the new anti-declawing bill by whining to them about all the good things vets do and how we are trying to take away one of their medical procedures. ? YES we know that vets help animals but the issue is about mutilating a cat by doing an inhumane and unnecessary toe bone and claw amputation procedure. #deflection They call us radical for trying to end this cat cruelty and for now organizing rallies to raise awareness for the cause. ???? Radical is amputating 10-20 toe bones & claws off a cat. Our Do No Harm day is on May 4th.
