Independence Avenue encircles a section of the Tidal Basin Reservoir in Washington, D.C. Originally named South B Street, this major roadway was constructed between 1791 and 1823 and passes by many of the city’s monuments, including the U.S. Capitol Building, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial.
