Meet @auralewis, a Jerusalem-born illustrator who is now based in NYC. She describes her aesthetic as “feminine, playful, and thoughtful” which can be seen through all of the important women she features in her art. Instagram has helped her career as an artist, and has even caught the eye of Gloria Steinem, who shared one of Aura’s images.
Her advice is to always post thing you really care about, as she believes that these are the posts that will most resonate with others. She’s inspired by those who achieve greatness — artists, athletes, scientists, and activists — as well as any great stories she comes across from articles, books, or films. But no matter where and what she takes inspiration, her favorite subjects are always illustrating people, especially women.
If she’s not illustrating, Aura loves to travel abroad, learn new languages, and learn about “alternative healing and therapies.” She even has two books she’s been working on! “Gloria’s Voice” about Gloria Steinem is now available, and she has another called “The Illustrated Feminist” coming in 2020 — both of which feature her own writing and illustrations. ? #ShineTheory
