#MDW18 by Alice Rawsthorn: There are more than a thousand design events in Milan this weekend. Here are some of my favourites, plus the ones I posted earlier in the week, of course. 1. The Milanese designer Sara Ricciardi has designed Arcadia as a preview of Legacy, an exhibition opening in May of work by nineteen young designers curated by Alice Stori Liechtenstein in her home, Schloss Hollenegg in Austria. Photo by Delfino Sisto Legnani. 2. U-Joints is a delightfully geeky investigation into the design of clamps, hinges, knots, dovetails, rivets and other forms of joints that have been designed over the centuries, curated by Anniina Koivu and Andrea Caputo. Photo by Delfino Sisto Legnani. 3. Piovenefabi’s inspiration for the Metrò collection of furniture was the 1960s design of Milan’s new subway system by Franco Albini, Franca Helg and Bob Noorda. Metrò is exhibited by the Brussels gallery Maniera at Alcova in a disused Panettone factory in Burro. Photo by Jeroen Verrecht. 4. Joseph Grima, the recently appointed creative director of Design Academy Eindhoven, has embedded (Not for Sale.), the school’s exhibition in the daily life of a street, Via Pietro Crespi. The graphics, designed by Michael Oswell, are inspired by IKEA’s. You can read more about Milan Design Week on my Instagram @alice.rawsthorn, and more about design in my new book, Design as an Attitude, to be published by @jrpringier in June. #design #designasanattitude #salonedelmobile #salonedelmobile2018 @isaloniofficial @milan.design.week #mdw2018
