This morning I had the opportunity to speak on Poland’s national morning show. When asked about the shirt I was wearing I spoke about the importance of narrative, stereotype & how we are the sum of all stories we have been told. I was proud to wear a shirt that supported Tame Iti, a Maori man who was called a Terrorist on the front pages of our NZ newspapers & then imprisoned only later to be released & apologised to by the police & government. Within such a world of political & religious divide, rich & poor, news & social media, On Demand TV, box office films & entertainment, Allies & Enemies, Heroes & Villains, I am glad to say I come from a county that has achieved somewhat amicable dialogue between two races Maori & British #treatyofwaitangi. However, we must be more diligent & especially in the arts find more universal stories that help heal the divide. No way an easy task but worth speaking up for.
