#MDW18 by Alice Rawsthorn: Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli threw a dinner to celebrate the opening of the Torre, designed by Rem Koolhaas as the latest - and, they say, the final - addition to Fondazione Prada last night. Like every other part of the campus, the Torre is constructed from a singular mix of materials with distinctive colours and textures which, in its case, are glossier, smoother and more glacial than its neighbours'. Works from the Prada collection are exhibited on most of the ten floors. Though my favourite space is the Torre restaurant on the sixth floor with a postcard view of Milan from the terrace, pieces from Philip Johnson’s 1958 Four Seasons Grill Room in New York and Carsten Höller’s 2008 Double Club as well as a trio of Piero Fontana’s glorious wall sculptures, and a wall of plates designed specially by John Baldessari, Thomas Demand, Mona Hatoum, Goshka Makuga, Francesco Vezzoli and other artists. 1. Carsten Höller’s mushrooms 2. Fondazione Prada Torre 3. Walter De Maria’s cars 4. Michael Heizer and Pino Pascali’s work 5. The staircase inside the Torre Photography: - 1. and 5. by Bas Princes - 2. , 3. and 4. by Delfino Sisto Legnani and Marco Cappelletti.
