Regrann from @loganlaurice - Dear @Starbucks, whichever employee thought it was decent to call the police on two men sitting in your establishment for ”not being paying customers” should be removed immediately while you follow up on this incident. Also, why were FIVE (correction, SEVEN!) officers needed to escort two peaceful gentleman out anyway? This “non paying customer” thing is ridiculous. Everyone sits in Starbucks! The #Starbucks closest to me actually has heavy homeless traffic, and their only ask is that everyone stay awake. They’ve never called the police on a person for SITTING. Update: These young men were waiting on their friend to show up who did as they were being handcuffed. They were still taken to the Philly 9th police district, and thanks to criminal defense attorney Lauren Wimmer were finally released at 2am this morning when the Philly DA’s office declined to arraign. The media will also include that they are real estate brokers because the world needs to constantly divide black people into upstanding citizens or problems. What they do for a living shouldn’t matter. We can see that it didn’t matter because they were #SittingWhileBlack. Don’t deny that we have a problem with race in this country, that’s not progressive—it’s avoiding the issue. We have to deal with it, like the man in this video did when he called the police out for what they were doing. Thank you do Melissa DePino for sharing this video.
