@iamevidencethemovie is premiering on @HBO on April 16th. The fierce and joyful heart -Mariska Hargitay- is the producer of this vitally important documentary. When a woman gets raped the only sure fire way of catching the perpetrator is through DNA evidence. That evidence is on the survivor’s body. A rape kit is done at the hospital and then it is SUPPOSED to be tested to see if it matches someone in the data base. Thousands and thousands of rape kits sit untested in storage closets of police departments all over the country. Why? Because each city gets to decide what they want to spend their money on. Testing kits are not a priority. And rape victims are left helpless, unable to attain justice. This film follows Mariska’s journey to several states, to DC, and you meet some of the incredible survivors who are not giving up on finding their attackers and finally getting the justice they deserve.
