Aloha kākou! I’m Matt Kwock (@mmkwock) and I’m honored to present this week’s @ハワイアン航空 #TakeoverTuesday. I work full-time on O‘ahu as a Physician Assistant - and I love my job! In medicine though, there is not a lot of room for experimentation and creativity, so after I finished PA school, I picked up a camera and started shooting. I developed a passion for photography because it allows me to push my creative boundaries and get outdoors. This picture was taken at the viewing area of the lava flow ocean entry on the Island of Hawai‘i. Often times people say they can see Tūtū Pele in the lava. I've titled this photo, Pele Sleeps. The shape of the smoke and glow of lava appear to form the shape of Goddess Pele lying down over the water, possibly even holding a child. Above, the dark night sky and glow of the Milky Way paint a beautiful canvas for a place to sleep. Currently, lava is not flowing into the ocean, but when it returns I encourage everyone to check it out. It’s one of the most mesmerizing experiences I’ve had.
