Blue is one of nature’s rarest colours and ever since the indigo dye was discovered about five thousand years ago, its suggestive shades have been associated with power, magic and divinity. Dipping white yarns in an indigo dye bath results in a golden green colour which develops into a distinctive blue when the dye is oxidised. The pigments do not penetrate the textile fibres but bond only on top of them, resulting in the characteristic and slightly uneven colour depth often associated with indigo fabrics.
