SENIOR SUNDAY! Today, @susiesseniordogs has a story for us with a happy ending. "This summer we adopted Gertrude from the York County SPCA. I’ve always had dogs, but my husband has never had one. He says he’s a cat person. I thought a senior dog would be a great addition to our three cats, three turtles, and five kids. It would also be a great introduction to being a dog parent for my husband.
I had been following the SPCA’s Facebook page and there Gertrude was. We took a ride to see her and it was closed! As we were leaving I was looking at their Facebook page for their hours and up popped a picture of her at an event they were having at that moment! So we drove over to meet her. She was all I had hoped for - sweet, gentle, a great walker. I put in our application for adoption and went to pick her up the next day.
At age 12, she had been a stray. She eased right into our home. She gets along with the cats (she and our youngest cat make a great begging team) and kids and really everyone she meets. She’s been up to NY to visit family, had a trip to the beach, and loves going to the dog park. She’s also been back to the SPCA to visit for their fall festival.
And my 'cat person' husband cooks her a homemade diet and has her on a great walking schedule. He still says he’s not a dog person, he’s a Gertrude person. ? -Shannon"
