Yesterday I drove from Sedona to Phoenix to fly back home to LA. I had a few hours to kill so I thought I’d check out the @phoenixzoo. It was the best time to go to the zoo - the weather was getting warmer and the animals were all out hooting and celebrating in full force. But in particular I was able to intimately watch an adult male orangutan with a baby male, who were hanging out against the glass, despite the enormous enclosure, and even interacting with people walking by (in these photos you can see the baby making faces at me). The baby was rambunctious, throwing a sheet over himself and running around with it, alternately punching, head-butting, and embracing his ever-patient dad. It was so beautiful I began to well up with tears, and it made me grateful for the Phoenix Zoo and all the other programs across the country helping to keep these species alive. And the rest of the zoo was great as well! I definitely recommend you check it out if you’re in town. #oragutan #babyanimals #zoo #❤️
