Thousands of West Virginia #teachers and school service employees packed the state capitol on Monday in a statewide strike to demand higher wages. Public schools in the state have been closed since the strike began on Thursday.

The average teacher’s salary in #WestVirginia is $45,000, making it the 48th lowest teacher’s salary in the United States. Gov. Jim Justice signed a 2% raise into law for next year, and two additional 1% raises for the years following — but teachers and their union leaders say it isn’t enough.
