Last night I attended one of the most inspiring and motivating panels: a discussion with the team behind @thetenthzine at the Hudson Valley LGBTQ center. This incredible magazine started as a beautiful book dedicated to sharing the stories and lives of black queer men and has grown and evolved into a publication that covers a wide range of issues, stories, trends and experiences told through a black queer lens. I cannot begin to describe how beautiful and meaningful and important this publication is and how special it was to have the creators right in front of us to tell the amazing stories BEHIND the stories. I came away with a long list of names of people and artists to check out and I honestly haven’t felt that excited in a while. It goes without saying, but you don’t have to be black or queer to love and find inspiration in @thetenthzine - this is the sort of project that makes me excited to get back to work. It’s full of passion and purpose and talent and it feels NEW and important and fresh. (And their dedication to supporting new writers is phenomenal) You can order copies online or check out @thetenthzine for stores near you that carry the latest issue (shown here). I’m going to try to get a copy of all the first issues somehow- flipping through them at the discussion was a total gift. This is a true gem of a magazine. ?
