“They say that tougher gun laws do not decrease gun violence. We call BS!” Reading from a speech scribbled on the back of her AP Government notes, Emma Gonzalez, a survivor of the #Parkland school shooting, gave an impassioned speech at an anti-gun rally in Fort Lauderdale, #Florida.
.
One by one, students and staff members who survived the deadly rampage at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School stepped up to a podium and railed against the gun lobby. Gonzalez, a high school sophomore, called out members of Congress who’ve accepted money and donations from the #NRA and criticized President #Trump for tweeting a call to action on mental health.
.
“All these people should be at home grieving,” Gonzalez said. “But instead we are up here, standing together, because if all our government and president can do is send ‘thoughts and prayers,’ then it’s time for victims to be the change that we need to see.”
