When my phone buzzed with the news alerts about YET another school shooting, my heart sunk for the innocent lives,the families, the loved ones, and for our country. And then, I got really angry. It doesn’t have to be like this.
Infuriating, preposterous, and sickening. My cab driver agreed. He shared my outrage- he’s from Sierra Leone and commented about America’s “gun problem”. He told me that his son goes to school not far away and just the other day there was a shooting, no one was hurt, but he was terrified for his son. This doesn’t doesn’t have to be a reality- we can do something about it. This gun violence isn’t normal and it does not need to be a contested issue. It should be damn hard to get a gun- just like it should be a lot harder to get prescription medication that’s led to an insane opioid crisis... but don’t get me started (thinking back to the #sotu2018 when Trump openly praised the FDA for all the new drugs they’re pushing and loosening drug restrictions THEN not 10 minutes later condemned the #opiodcrisis and blamed immigrants when really it’s #bigpharma polluting and killing American citizens!) I digress... We can do something and we need to hold our lawmakers accountable and get involved ourselves.
I’m all for hunting- I like ?- but not hunting people- or making it easy for mentally unstable people to have access to a gun. This isn’t about freedom, it’s about COMMON SENSE.
