#Repost @handsfreerevolution ・・・ A few weeks ago, a vibrant teenager named Patrick Turner died by suicide. He left three letters that contained some of the most impactful messages I’ve ever read. I purposely read each word carefully, sensing Patrick was offering the world a rare guide to loving our children better and leading them to a fulfilling life. Days later, alarm bells went off in my head when I heard my daughter echoing some of the same sentiments Patrick used to describe the pressure he felt. Refusing to add to the existing pressure, I said something I never thought I’d say to my daughter who possesses so much promise. I won’t soon forget the relief that washed over her face or the way despair turned to hope by simply acknowledging there is a world outside of those school walls. My friends, this is one of the most important pieces I’ve ever written, and I’m certain there is young person who needs to hear the words I said to my daughter. Please use them; please use them today. It’s time to stop prioritizing academic success over wellbeing and happiness ... it’s time to stop perpetuating damaging messages that indicate mistakes are weaknesses and failure is the end ... it’s time to reject the misguided notion that perfect grades are the only path to a good life. Link to my latest post found in my profile. “Average grades do not mean you are an average person. Below-average grades do not mean you will have a below-average life. You are more than the grades you receive. You are more than what you achieved today. There is more than one path to a fulfilling and purposeful life.” –Rachel Macy Stafford #iseeyou #ihearyou #pressurerelief #suicideawareness #youaremore #youareenough #onlylovetoday
