I think I enjoy going to museums so much BECAUSE I can turn off my tiring habit of analyzing art. I love visual art, but don’t know much about it. So, it’s pretty easy for me to relax, unwind and just enjoy! I went to the National Gallery here in Singapore, and, as Impressionism (& Modern Art, but they didn’t exhibit that type at the time) belonging to my favorite types of visual art, I was intrigued ? Slideshow: 1st: Paul Signac: Palais de Papes Avignon, 1900, oil on canvas. I think the colors used for this pointillism painting are just amazingly well chosen and beautiful! 2nd: Auguste Renoir: Pont du chemin de fer à Chatou, 1881, oil on canvas. This painting in particular I love because I feel like I’m right there in the countryside, feeling the breeze and smelling the fresh air and flowers. 3rd: Lucien Pissarro: L’église de Gisors, 1888, oil on canvas. I didn’t know Pissarro before, but am glad I do now: this painting brought a certain calm over me as I looked at it. There’s a comforting quality about it showing a rather simple yet detailed environment. 4th: Claude Monet: La Cathédrale de Rouen: The portal and Saint-Romain Tower, full sunlight. 1893, oil on canvas. Monet is one of my favorite artists of all time. His series of paintings of the gothic cathedral of Rouen was unfamiliar to me, but the photo really doesn’t do the painting justice: the color combinations used were absolutely breathtaking! 5th: Gustave Caillebotte: Vue de toits (Effet de neige), 1878, oil on canvas. This artwork gives an intimate feel, showing the rooftops of Paris from a studio. His usage of color was also quite complex: the cold harmonies of blue, violet and white are given contrast by layering warm tones of orange underneath the snow. 7th: Claude Monet: Champs de tulipes en Hollande, 1886, oil on canvas. I photographed this a bit shakey.. but this painting makes me feel free and lively in many ways! 8th: Raden Saleh: The cemetery in the Park of Bogor with Graves, 1871, oil on canvas. Doesn’t this painting make you feel like you’re actually there?! 9th: Juan Luna: Two studies of a woman, 1889-1892, oil on wood. I just loved how dreamy and beautiful the woman was put in scene :)
