They say every picture has a story, but generally that story doesn’t entail almost killing someone. Allow me to expand on that. Pictured here is @coryrichards, a very close friend of mine that I’ve know for over 13 years. Cory and I have history, which is my favorite kind of friend. We’ve supported one another creatively as photographers, owned a business together, been on expeditions, had the best and worst conversations, celebrated, commiserated, shared success, failure and traveled around the world. I’ve also nearly killed him. Probably more than once, but I’ll just tell the one story as this caption is already hideously long. I took this photo here of Cory back in 2015 on an Ad shoot. I was boomed out above Cory and @emilyharrington on a pair of rattley painters poles, yes, the kind from a hardware store that are designed to paint ceilings and hard to reach areas, perfect for D.I.Y. photography. Without warning one of the poles buckled and a section cut loose, bombing towards Cory like a missile from a 100 feet above him; I yelled “look out!” only to see it bounce off the wall and right into Cory, who deflected it with his shoulder like a gladiator, barely missing his head. Disaster barely averted. The client, one @brandonjosephbaker, who I’d only recently met, must have been questioning what sort of lunatic he’d hired to shoot his campaign. Thankfully no one was injured or killed and now it’s just a funny story. I sent this photo to Cory this morning, to see the text I wrote him check out his feed @coryrichards
