My #wcw this week goes out to friend and filmmaker @nikicaro. Niki just received a Director’s Guild Award for her work on the @ネットフリックス show @annetheseries. If you haven’t seen it yet, do it now. It’s stunning. I first got to know Niki on a film we made together called North Country - a movie based on the first class-action sexual harassment case brought forth by female miners against the coal-mining industry. It was landmark case and these women won! My memories of making that film run deep and it was a profound and humbling experience for all of us to be a part of telling their story. Niki has continued to pursue a career of such impressive creative integrity, making socially-conscious films depicting everyday people doing extraordinary things. My faves include Whale Rider, @thezookeeperswife, and #McFarlandUSA. I encourage you to see them all. Next up, she is at the helm of @Disney’s live-action Mulan feature. Niki is kind and fierce and commanding. A innate nurturer and truth-seeker, I’m deeply proud to know her. And I am proud to see our industry embracing her talents and recognizing her powerful voice. #femalefilmmaker #womeninfilm
