Six months before this photo, 2-year-old Bhagwati was losing her grip on life. Born in a remote village in #Pakistan with little access to health care, Bhagwati was never breastfed and her family couldn’t afford to give her milk. “She cried so we tried feeding her butter and honey,” recalls her mother Guli. "She fell ill.” When #UNICEF staff dropped in on the family and saw the toddler’s condition, they got her to the hospital just in time. She was diagnosed with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and pneumonia — and treated with Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF). Now, says Guli, who also received counseling in nutrition and proper hygiene, she’s recovered, “much more active and playful and heading towards a healthier life.
