If you do a good deed in real life, say donate to charity or give a homeless man food, that’s a beautiful thing. But the moment you wear it like a badge of honor on social media, you’ve tarnished it. Because you didn’t do the deed for those in need, you’ve done it for yourself and your need to be seen as a good person instead of just being one.
*additional context*
There are good ways to do good deeds and still be genuine while sharing them with the world. When the sole intent of the good deed is for the content derived from it such as a vlogger doing magic tricks to make change appear in someone’s hat, that is a prime example of what I’m talking about. But if there is a crisis and people are in need and we come together and promote towards it, that’s special and that should be shared.
