Just watched @amaralanegraaln ‘s interview on #TheBreakFastClub and I really like her and appreciate her speaking up on her experience being a Dominican Afro Latina that’s faced resistance because she doesn’t have the “stereotypical look” for a Latina artist. It’s such a complex and deep issue that affects all of us people of color differently. And whether or not you can relate- all we can ask is that you respect each persons individual struggle and experience that is unique to THEM. Light, dark, medium, other- we all have our unique experiences. The conversations need to be had- and sometimes people will be offended and hurt, and misunderstand- but if we KEEP talking- may be we eventually get to a place where we can at least start to TRY to understand one another’s pain and feelings.
