Today we mourn a true motorsport legend. Dan Gurney, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 86, was a winner in Formula 1, Indy Car, NASCAR and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, among others. He was also a motorsport pioneer, piloting his own self-built car to victory in F1 and becoming the first driver to wear a fully protective face helmet. He is pictured here after winning at Le Mans in 1967, and he’s about to become the first winning driver in motorsport to spray champagne rather than sip it. Who can imagine an F1 podium without it now? RIP, Dan Gurney. Gone, but never forgotten ??
