Here is Sophia and her letter to Social Media.
Dear Social Media, You are everyone’s true love. You are the last one we see before falling asleep, and the first one we see in the morning. You are the most dependable relationship we have; you are there when we are bored and lonely but you are also there when we are joyous and celebrating. Any spare moment is given to you. With every icon, blink, ring, or buzz, we come running like honeymooners. When it comes to our human relationships, we either validate or hide them through you and both cause complications. In fact everything we do has to be validated or hidden from you now. You are an oppressive lover but you also allow us to see and connect with the world outside of our physical reach. Sometimes I don’t know if I’m lying or telling the truth when I’m showing you who I am through my own eyes. It’s like everyone is interacting behind one-way mirrors. I am most happy when I am looking up instead of down at you. I am happy when I am wild like fish in the sea or horses running across a field. When music is around and inside me, When I watch my mother bless the food while she cooks, when my father makes grand speeches, when my brother and I sit quietly together. ​W​hen I’m laughing or making love when I’m remembering, when I’m thinking​, sleeping, crying​. I am happy when I am pushing my potential​ ​and feeling​ ​alive. Social media is a tool, like a hammer, like money. It has changed the culture of communication and no one knows whether it’s for better or for worse, but we all know it’s here to stay until death do us part.
