There is an excitement mixed with calm in the wings before the curtain goes up. I always do a last minute check of my pointe shoes to make sure they have the right amount of support for the show. Here I am about to perform Rubies by George Balanchine. The steps in this ballet are quick and syncopated, so I like my shoes right in the middle, not too hard and not too soft so I can make the dynamic changes seamlessly. - Alessandra Ball James
