This ✔️ People have asked me over the years what I mean when I say that ALL abuse — verbal, sexual, physical, emotional and FINANCIAL — needs to stop. They’re confused about what I define as financial abuse. Financial abuse is fully on display in the article above. It is when you are offered a clearly sexist/disgustingly low amount of money in comparison to your male peers for a role or job in any industry. This is prevalent in most work places / professions where they hire the male in prominent positions (eg in entertainment they often secure the male lead and pay them out first leaving women to fight for what’s left). Often, if you do not accept the horrifically lowball deal, you are either cornered into a ‘call their bluff’ situation as a last resort, forced to pass on something you ache to do and taking the hit, or face the ever-present tactic where they say “it’s not about the money” which means “you are lucky and we will pull this offer b/c anyone else will take it”. Frequently, they simply threaten to “move on” if you even attempt to negotiate. Sadly, this is commonplace because great roles (jobs, positions) for females are staggeringly limited. I cannot tell you how painful these conversations are. What it’s like to just fucking take it so that you can continue to do what you love. To share your God given gifts.
