Last night’s speech was a profound articulation of what Oprah does better than maybe anybody else, finding a path forward. Her reassurance in the power of speaking our truth, listening, finding the common humanity in the void, pivoting as individuals, and ultimately adapting as a species. The beauty of her message was not only in its inspirational strength but also in its inclusiveness, that we all have an amazing opportunity to move forward as the best versions of ourselves. We are ALL part of this. We can ALL be better. Yes, this is the moment to take down the monsters of world. The Harveys and Spaceys, that so clearly abandoned the black and white delineation of good vs evil. But also this is a moment of introspection for all of us, because this truth, like every other facet of life, is found in the complexities of gray. The univeral change comes in the everyday moments of our lives when we heard the voice in our heads that said, I could have done better, I could have led with love. The real change comes when we have the strength and courage to say next time I will do better. I can be a better husband, I can be a better co-worker, I can be a better father, a teacher, a teammate, a son, brother, friend, sister, daughter, mother and ultimately a better human being. I say it to Wyatt every time he trips his sister or treats her in a way that doesn’t reflect our values, “Every moment is another opportunity to choose LOVE” #TIMESUP and now we must all lead with that love. For the sake of our daughters, for the sake of our sons, for the love of us all.
