I participated in #timesup because no one, no woman, should have to live in fear that because she doesn’t fulfill some bullshit sexual expectation, isn’t the “right” color or, hell, isn’t the right sex that she won’t have an opportunity she has worked hard for. This isn’t about entitlement or being given something “just for being” whatever you are. I can’t say it’s about being treated like a human because most of us treat each other like garbage. So it’s about creating a world where the expectation is that you will be judged on your work and merit, not your sex and color, things you can’t control. It’s about forging a path and a world where the things we are preyed upon and judged for now are second to the actual work. And if you are the type of person who wants to brilliantly quip “are men invited?” The answer is absolutely and please. Good men are an integral part of this and feminism in general. If you are the type of man who doesn’t understand this, feels left out or thinks this is funny then we want you to join us even more. Please don’t wait to have a daughter just to have the realization that women shouldn’t be harassed just for existing and scared to earn a living.
