I love this photo because it captures Mike and I both doing whatever we can to get Harlow on board while Mazzy is like, “Don’t worry guys. I’ll smile for all of us.” As a big sister myself, I remember being jealous of all the extra attention I thought my little sister got. I get it now. It’s not favoritism or that we love Mazzy any less. It’s that we trust that she is old enough to be responsible and handle herself. Or maybe we want her to be before she is quite ready because that makes our job as parents less complicated. The older kid does get the short end of the stick a lot of the time. I promise Mazzy, this year I will work on balancing my time better between you and your sister. Whether you still need me as much or not.
