Anti-police-brutality activist Erica Garner, who suffered "major" brain damage after a Dec. 24 heart attack, died on Dec. 30, according to an update on her verified Twitter account. She was 27. Garner was a political activist who came into prominence after the death of her father, Eric Garner, who died in July 2014 after being placed in a chokehold by a police officer, sparking major protests. She called for an end to police brutality and staged regular “die-ins” on the Staten Island sidewalk where her father was killed. "Her heart was broken when she didn’t get justice," the Rev.
